Allman’s BBQ

Allman’s Bar-B-Q has been a Fredericksburg staple since 1954, when founder James “Pappy” Allman “fired up the pits” and, alongside his son-in-law Pete, started what the restaurant describes as a family tradition built around flavorful barbecue and a welcoming, local feel. Today, Allman’s bills itself as Virginia’s oldest continuously-running barbecue restaurant and notes it celebrated its 70th year in 2024. In more recent years, it’s been operated by partners Matt Haney and pitmaster Matt Deaton, and prides itself on a return to woodfired smoking.
