DUGAN’S RESTAURANT

Dugan’s Restaurant occupied the Old Buck House at 801 Caroline Street, a building constructed in 1804. After the Civil War, it served as the Fredericksburg Post Office until 1921, then briefly became Horton’s Auto Supply before opening as Dugan’s Restaurant in 1930. It was owned by John Christoforatos, who later returned to Greece; his brother George took over in the 1960s. After July 1948, Dugan’s began selling beer and wine and became a local “watering hole” for roughly 40 years. In 1980, the business was purchased by Samuel T. Emory and reopened as “Sammy T’s” on Valentine’s Day in 1981.
