FREDERICKSBURG HARDWARE
Fredericksburg Hardware was a longtime downtown fixture with deep ties to Fredericksburg's agricultural and industrial roots. Founded in 1914 by C.D. Binns, the business initially supplied the region's farming community before expanding into hardware, plumbing, and general merchandise. Operated by the Binns family and later managed for many years by Mack [Last Name] and his family, the store earned a reputation for personalized service, knowledgeable staff, and a commitment to its customers. Features such as customer charge accounts and the store's extensive inventory helped build a loyal following across generations of Fredericksburg residents.
Located at the corner of William and Winchester Streets, the site's history extends even further, tracing back to an 1849 brick warehouse and the rebuilding that followed a devastating fire in 1914. Fredericksburg Hardware opened in the building in 1963 and remained a downtown institution until its closure in 2004. Its famous motto, "If we don't have it, you don't need it," became one of the most recognizable sayings in Fredericksburg and reflected the store's reputation as the place to find nearly anything. Today, Fredericksburg Hardware is remembered not only for the goods it sold, but for the generations of relationships it fostered within the community.
