Mayflower Restaurant
Established in 1927, the Mayflower Restaurant was a longtime downtown Fredericksburg restaurant located in the Bradford Building at 222 William Street, at the southeast corner of William and Princess Anne streets.
The restaurant was part of the busy commercial life of downtown Fredericksburg during the era when U.S. Route 1 ran through town, drawing both local diners and travelers headed north and south.
The Mayflower is also remembered because of the fire that destroyed the Bradford Building in 1963. Later local references identify the restaurant as the source of the blaze, and the site was eventually cleared. Today, the location is no longer occupied by the building; local recollections describe it as the corner near the old City Hall, where there is now a small garden/open space.
