RECREATION CENTER
For nearly eighty years, the Recreation Center stood as a downtown landmark at 213 William Street. Opened in 1940, the beloved "Pool Room" became famous for its billiards, chili dogs, and unmistakable sense of community. Through the stewardship of local proprietors including Gus Rangos, Steve Zapantis, the Virvos family, and later Victoria Phillippe, the Recreation Center remained a gathering place where friendships were formed, stories were shared, and generations of Fredericksburg residents felt at home. Though the doors closed in 2019, the Recreation Center endures in the memories of those who pulled up a stool, chalked a cue, or enjoyed one of its famous hot dogs.
